Presidential Woes

Crooked.

The word that describes how I feel about the vast majority of politicians. If you ask me, they all have a few screws loose! Political things have never really interested me. I vote because that is my right as a free, American woman. A lot of women fought HARD for that right and I don’t want their struggles to go for naught. This post is not a statement of my political affiliation. I don’t have one. I do not consider myself to be a Democrat or a Republican. I don’t want to box myself into a political party’s small minded ideas. I will never EVER vote a straight ticket. Voting for a person rather than a party seems much more sound to me.

I was born & raised in the South & l love it with all my heart, but as a whole, we southerners aren’t the most open minded of people. And for a region that is known as the “Bible belt,” we seem to be some of the most judgmental, hateful people that exist. With that being said, I am thoroughly disgusted at the hate that has been and continues to spew from the mouths of everyone right now. It’s so sad to read the utter disrespect that people have for the current and possible future leaders of our country.

A close friend of mine sent me an article a few weeks ago that was written by a man from the “Great White North.” I thought that the points the author brought up were very good, especially with him being from another country... an outsider's perspective. He talked about how the President of the United States used to be one of the most revered positions in the world. Respect oozed out of people when it came to the President. People did not openly hate the President because that was almost considered to be treasonous. What happened to that mindset? All we do now is look negatively upon and bash our Presidents (current & former). I’m not saying that we have to agree with everything he decides, but we should be positive and supportive. If we don’t back up and support our leader as a country, what does that show to the rest of the world? When we hate him, they will too!

I am not saying that I am the biggest Obama fan because I’m not. And I’m certainly not a big Romney fan either, but I would be saying these same things even if Nick Saban was our President. (It’d be REALLY hard though!) We need to show the President and the other leaders of our country some respect and support. They need to know that we stand behind them… as “one nation, under God.” Who knows, maybe that will help them make a change to better our economy and country as a whole.

Before you “good Christians” gripe even more because your choice didn’t win, open your Bibles & read Romans 13. God establishes our leaders. He puts them there for a reason. The reason might be a positive one or a negative one, we do not know. Maybe this is God’s way of saying we need to give Obama a second chance to prove everyone wrong. Or maybe we won’t have a country in 4 years. It doesn’t matter. God placed him there, and we should take that into consideration before we open our mouths with distaste. You may not like it, but there are a lot of things that happen that we don’t like, right? Be thankful that we don’t have the next Hitler or Stalin as the current leader of our country. Stop complaining and accept that fact that Obama is our President. And if you can think of nothing positive at all… just hush & remember that after this term, he can no longer be elected President. Maybe that can be your one & only solace.
