Cooking Experiments

Experiment #1: Crescent rolls

My new favorite thing is to see what I can stuff into crescent rolls. Lol. Not surprisingly... just about anything is good inside! First, I tried ham & brie cheese and roast beef & swiss cheese. Both were delicious! Next, I tried goat cheese, tomatoes & pesto... also, very good. Last, I did turkey and pepper jack cheese. The last one is the lightest out of all of them & prpbably the healthiest. One thing I figured out is that, if you use the large crescent rolls, it is best to roll them small end to large end because they won't cook all the way through otherwise. Also, about half way through cooking, it's best to turn them over because they tend to get a little soggy on the bottom. (Especially with the oil from the pesto and cheese.) It also gives it a little more taste if you sprinkle the tops with some sort of spice before you back them. I use garlic salt & onion powder, but you could use whatever you think will go best. I also made some with apple butter in the middle (not pictured) that were so good. They'd be good with any kind of jam or preserves inside too.

Experiment #2: Broccoli

I always love a good side of broccoli, but I get tired of eating it the same way.. steamed. I saw a recipe for parmesan broccoli and thought that sounded different. Of course, I had to make a few tweeks of my own. First, I sauteed the broccoli in olive oil with a few spices. (It's best if you can saute with fresh minced garlic.) When it got to the right tenderness, I tossed it in pesto and a miz of shredded parmesan, asiago and ramano cheeses. SO GOOD! It would be good served as a side dish or over pasta.

Experiment #3: Banana Pudding

I have very recently discovered a love for banana pudding. I saw a recipe that was for a healthier version, so I thought I'd give it a try. It was tough, but turned out pretty good.

The custard turned out well, but I wasn't very fond of the flavor of the roasted bananas. I think next time I'll stick to the easy kind... no cooking involved! Lol.

PS Sorry my food photography skills aren't stellar. Have to work on that!
