Something I stumbled upon...

I get the privilege of playing secretary for some friends of the family for a couple of days. Since the weather is bad & the phones aren't ring-a-linging, I've been searching the internet for random things. Well, I got on StubleUpon for the first time and one of the first things that popped up was an article on life secrets & tips. I'm not sure that a lot of them are really "secrets" per say, but I still think they are good pieces of information. A lot of them were things that I already knew or were common sense to me, but I'd never really thought about them too much.

Now, I tend to have a little bit of a bohemian look at life. That coupled with my love of business makes me a little unconventional... but that makes me more fun, right? Or maybe just weird. I'll take either one really. Anyway, back to my random musings. One thing I've always kind of been on the other side of the fence about is money. Our country/world is all about some moolah. Greed is really the word. Don't get me wrong, I understand the importance of money, but I think we place a little too much importance on having an abundance of it. I've always had a very comfortable life. I may not have gotten EVERYTHING that I wanted, but I've always had more than I needed. And for that I have always been very thankful.Having been blessed with a very comfortable lifestyle has made me realize that money isn't the be all, end all that everyone makes it out to be. I thought this article had a good way of saying "Take your focus off making a buttload of money!"
Do what you love. There is a huge difference between making a life and making a living; which one are you making right now? So many spend their entire lives trying to make as much money as possible so that they can afford to do what they really want later. It makes no sense to settle in life until you’re 65 so that you can retire and do what you want when you’re already WAY past your prime. We only live life once so why wouldn’t you want to spend it pursuing your bliss? To do anything else would be a tragic waste of the freedom you are allowed if you are reading this right now. Follow your bliss and you will be a thousand times more happy than your retirement date and 40+ years younger
The things I remember the most about my childhood aren't the things I got for my birthday or Christmas, but the time spent with my friends & family. Travelling. Seeing historic places. Learning. Without those things, those memories,  I wouldn't be the person I am today. Yes, money contributed to me being able to have some of those memories, but it wasn't the cause of them. One day, I hope I can show my kids that time and people and memories are far more important than material gain. So, take some time away from the hustle & bustle of work and money & spend some time with the people that are most dear to you. Do something random. Call your best friend from high school and ask them how they are. Take that money you've been saving for something material & go make a memory instead.

The next thing that I thought was interesting was that the article said to make sure you are surrounding yourself with people that are building you up... making you a better person. I found this kind of ironic due to a situation I have recently been through and a conversation I had with someone a few months back. He told me that exact same thing... pretty much. I encourage you to take a step back and look at your friends or the people you surround yourself with. Are they making your life better? Sometimes you don't really realize just how negatively someone is affecting you until they are no longer a part of your life. Here is what the article said specifically...
Choose your friends wisely. You are affected far more than you think by the people you spend your time with. Do your friends share your values? Do they encourage you when you speak of your goals and dreams or do they scoff? Make sure the people around you are conducive to the lifestyle you want to lead or you will find yourself being dragged again and again into behavior that distances you from your desires. Friends with a habit of producing negative thoughts will especially hinder you. This can be a hard task to follow through with if you realize you good friend is one of these saboteurs, but you must be firm! Don’t let anyone get in the way of you being all that you can be.

The last thing that struck me... probably the most of all ...was the last thing on the list... love. I am one of those hippie, flower child kind of people that thinks that love can cure just about anything. All you need is love! Haha (I'm also a Beatles fan) You show someone some kindness and love and you don't know where life will take them after that. My parents always told me that even if we didn't have money, I could always be sure that I was loved more than anyone could imagine. & I believe it too!  Maybe I go a little overboard with the love stuff, but I definitely think it's important. I want all of my family and friends to know just how much they mean to me... how my life wouldn't be nearly as wonderful without them. I may not say it all the time, but I try to show it in other ways. I have been VERY blessed to meet some amazing, amazing people within the last year or year and a half. People, who had I never met them, I would be missing out on a lot.... fun, laughs, LOVE (Imagine that! Haha)... just a lot of amazing, special times. I hope that I can show them that I love them and that they are a part of my life that I would never want to be without!
Love is all there is.If you truly want to be a master of life, let love be in your every action. Love your friends, family and enemies alike. This is the most difficult thing to do out of this entire list, which is why it is listed at #50. But if you accomplish this, you will be seen as a leader among everyone that allows hate, envy, disgust and all other negative emotions into their lives. Think Gandhi. Love is so rare in this world when compared to the massive presence of hate that by exuding love, you will immediately see yourself and the people around you change. Love. Love. Love.
Anyway, these are my random musings for the day. Go take a look at the list of 50 life tips & secrets. Some are good and others aren't, but it's fun to read at least. Maybe it'll make you think about some things you've never taken the time to think about before.
Y'all have a wonderful day & rest of the week! & War Damn Auburn Homecoming this weekend! :)
